Immigration has met with hostility and fear due to 9/11, the economic recession, and concerns about an open border and about the effect on American culture. Na- tivistic attitudes will always exist. Yet, contemporary immigrants, whether from Nigeria, China, or Colombia, bring to the United States needed skills and labor and a desire to fit into the countryÊs life.
