She has always encouraged a wider vision that spoke to the people, their cultures, and their histories, within a context of larger geo- graphical understanding now unfolding in the 21st century. Doubtless, if this work poses new insights, raises new questions, or challenges any obdurate interpretations among those who read through these pages, it is in very large part because of the eclectic mix, as well as the unbounded enthusiasm, of those who have contributed their writings here and who, in doing so, have pur- posefully encouraged a constructive dialogue without which this volume would not have been possible.
