xx Preface to the Second Edition same-sex marriage in the United States is now a settled mat- ter, some serious and fundamental disputes remain about the practice of two individuals of the same sex becoming legally married. For example, the question now arises as to how society will be able to accommodate the views of individuals whose religious tenets are in direct opposition to same-sex marriage. For LGBT individuals, also, basic questions remain about issues of nondiscrimination in housing, employment, public accom- modation, and other areas in more than half of the United States. In addition to consideration of these ongoing and rela- tively new questions, this second edition contains updated ref- erences, bibliography, chronology, and profiles.
