xii Acknowledgments Alysse Corolla. We have much needed administrative support from Maureen Piccolo, Gabi Scippa, Alyssa Aguiar, Stacey Gigante, Christine Gonzalez, Adri- enne Frazier, Jill Muise, among many others. In addition, I am privileged to work with some of the greatest sports medi- cine team clinicians caring for athletes in the Boston area, including Gian Cor- rado, Frank Wang, Amy Costa, Doug Comeau, Peter Doyle, Pete Viteritti, Carl Gustafson, Brant Berkstresser, Steve Bushee, Steve Clark, Rick Burr, Sarah Gurry, Jeanine Donato, Frank Mastrangelo, Pat Cordeiro, and Liz Cilia, among many others. Special thanks goes to Steve Bushee for sharing the concussion procedures he helped write at Boston College with the readers of this text. There are many mentors who continue to help guide my efforts. Lyle J. Micheli, MD, is a world famous surgeon specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics. He is chief of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, pro- fessor of orthopedics at Harvard Medical School, past president of the Amer- ican College of Sports Medicine, past secretary general of the International Federation of Sports Medicine, and holds many other prominent titles. Despite his stature, he has always taken time to provide me with advice, guidance, and support. I am indebted to him for taking such an active interest in my career. Sports medicine is a division of the Department of Orthopedics, which is headed by Peter Waters, MD, who continues to give me guidance and support throughout my career, meeting with me monthly, and offering me repeated opportunities to improve my leadership skills. I remain grateful for his mentorship. In addition, I have been mentored by many senior leaders in medicine and science who have helped with both clinical and investigative efforts including Jim Kasser, Rich Bachur, Gary Fleisher, Andy Taylor, and Mark Proctor. We are assisted in clinical research by many of the clinicians mentioned earlier as well as Dai Sugimoto, David Howell, Becky Zwicker, Chris Cuna, Natalie Slick, Bridget Dahlberg, Max McKee-Proctor, Caitlin McCracken, and Anna Brilliant, who coordinate all ongoing studies through the clinic. We have countless collaborators including Peter Kriz, Andy Taylor, Can Tan, Grant Iverson, Hamish Kerr, Jim MacDonald, Jon Minor, Tina Master, Lauren Jantzie, Dody Robinson, Marsha Moses, Dawn Comstock, Mickey Collins, Anthony Kontos, RJ Elbin, Greg Myer, Tom Buckley, Christine Baugh, Aaron Baggish, Skip Pope, Josh Easter, Steve Stache, Matt Eisenberg, Michael Monuteaux, Roger Zemek, Jeffrey Colvin, Marney Naeser, Ross Zafonte, Paul Berkner, Alex Lin, Lexi Stillman, Mo Shafi, Inga Koerte, and Marty Shenton, among many others.
