Taking Stock of Your Library 11 Get to Know Your Instructors Faculty and instructors are among your most important allies in promot- ing library services to online and distance learning students. However, they are not always aware of what is available to them and their students. Fortu- nately, there are a number of studies on instructor awareness and use of library resources that can be helpful. Many include suggested questions or themes to fi nd out about your stakeholders. Questions to consider: What do instructors know about library services to distance/online learners? What do instructors need or want from you/the library? What do instructors expect students to know about the library? Who are the potential partners who might be willing to work with you? Case Study: Assessing Faculty Use of Library Services and Resources in the Learning Management System Emily Deal, MSIS, Distance Learning Librarian, University of Louisiana at Lafayette The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the second-largest public uni- versity in Louisiana, with an enrollment of approximately 19,000 stu- dents. In the fall of 2016, nearly 6 percent were enrolled in a program taught entirely online, and an additional 24 percent of students took at least one online or hybrid class. The content of online classes is delivered via the learning management system (LMS) Moodle, and a Moodle course shell is created for every class section each semester, including those that are taught face to face. Instructors who teach face-to-face classes are not required to use Moodle, but many do so to enhance and supplement the content delivered in their classes. Starting in 2012, I began offering a suite of services and resources to help faculty integrate the library into Moodle, including video tutorials, subject guides, and embedded librarian services. The services were initially created to help distance learning faculty, but they are now available to all teaching fac- ulty at the university. In spring 2017, I created an online survey using SurveyMonkey that was designed to examine how all faculty integrate library services and resources into the LMS. The survey also asked faculty who do not inte- grate the library into Moodle to explain why not. To reach as many fac- ulty as possible, a link to the eight-question survey was distributed via
