Common Misconceptions about Living Green 1. THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE Everything you do makes a difference. That’s basic ecology. The carbon dioxide you exhale, the nitrogen you excrete in urine, the animals you eat—all of that goes into the ecological mix. Ecological systems run on inputs of energy and materials and outputs of wastes. Human society is no exception. The problem is that there are so many people on the planet, so many businesses producing goods and polluting the air, that it seems that nothing you can do will make a real dent in the environmental problems they cause. So why should you bother to live green? You don’t have to. But it’s nice to live consciously. You can choose how you want to live, and living green is a valid option.
