ix Series Foreword Dozens of subfields exist in the academic disciplines of psychology and health, which help train many different types of specialists in the helping professions, from an array of counselors, social workers, and psychologists to public health scientists, medical researchers, and physicians. Yet, short of finding and completing a course concentrated on the subfield, or shad- owing a particular professional at length, students and interested lay read- ers may have no substantial information on any particular subfield or specialty. Books in this series serve that need. The Essentials of Psychology and Health series includes books that pro- vide an introduction to, and deeper understanding of, academic subfields and resulting specialties in professions intended to understand disorders and improve physical and mental health, whether on individual or societal levels. These books are designed to be inclusive, research and case study strong, compact, and easy to use to locate particular information.
