xv Timeline 1869 Sir Francis Galton publishes Hereditary Genius, arguing that intellectual abilities are biological in nature. 1879 Wilhelm Wundt opens the first formal psychology laboratory at the Uni- versity of Leipzig in Germany. 1883 G. Stanley Hall publishes The Contents of Children’s Minds on Entering School, which was based on a large study of kindergarten-aged children and intended to inform elementary school teachers. Hall also establishes the first laboratory of psychology in America at Johns Hopkins University. The Child Study Movement officially begins.
