xv Acknowledgments This work was possible because of the individuals, organizations, and traditions involved with religiously motivated environmentalism, as well as the interest and support of ABC-CLIO editors. The world’s many reli- gious and spiritual traditions, the followers of these traditions, environ- mental activists, scientists, academics and researchers, students, and the general reading public all participate in deepening our understanding of the relationship between humans and their habitats. Additionally, as a scholar, writer, and researcher, I would like to thank the University of New Mexico both for its expansive library system and its accommodations for faculty involved in publication and research. Numerous colleagues have also supported my interest in social move- ments and religiously motivated environmentalism over the years, most notably Robert Fiala and Felipe Gonzales. On a more personal level, I must acknowledge my mother, Linda. Her playful approach to learning nurtured my love of knowledge beginning in my earliest years. She is also responsible for my curiosity about the natural world, spirituality, and religious traditions. She provided opportunities for many adventures in these fields that led to a deep appreciation of the many ways that humans interact with the natural environment.
