There are many ways podcasting can benefit not only teens but also the adults taking part in the program. If you’re inter- ested in starting a podcast, you might be in a position where you need to convince the powers that be to get one started, especially if you require some funding. I will discuss equip- ment and pricing in Chapter 3 of this guide, but money isn’t the only topic to address when you approach your manager, principal, whomever, when you say you want to start a pod- cast with teens in the library or classroom. It’s important to highlight the benefits of this medium so you get as many people on board as possible. The more can people who are invested in your program, the more your teens will get out of it. I was fortunate that our teens won a grant to start their podcast. This gave us a lot of freedom when it came to purchasing equipment and getting started. As I’ll discuss in Chapter 2, you do not need a huge budget to get your podcast off the ground. All you will need is some time and some dedicated teens.
