Preface xv I want to acknowledge a few people who have supported me in devel- oping this discussion. First and foremost, my wife, Roseann, has been a tremendous source of strength and support during this time. In addition to giving me the freedom to write on these issues, she was a key reviewer and editor of the manuscript. Many thanks to Reid Kirby, Greg Koblentz, Seth Carus, and Oliver Wisco for their support and comments. Particular thanks and gratitude to Larry Cereghino, who also reviewed the manu- script. Larry was directly responsible for SAIC hiring me to become an Air Force analyst in 2011, in spite of my vocal criticism of the Air Force’s “counter-CBRN” concepts and its particular process for modernizing its chemical-biological defense equipment. He correctly understood the need for organizations to embrace change and reform by encouraging the input of constructive criticism based on the honest desire for improving U.S. defense capabilities. My good friends Bill Thomas and Tom Woloszyn have been constant supporters and excellent sounding boards as well. As a U.S. government employee, this book represents my own views and does not necessarily reflect the views or positions of the Air University, Air Force, or Department of Defense.
