About the Editors Spencer C. Tucker, PhD, has been senior fellow in military history at ABC-CLIO since 2003. He is the author or editor of 64 books and encyclopedias, many of which have won prestigious awards. Tucker’s last academic position before his retirement from teaching was the John Biggs Chair in Military History at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington. He has been a Fulbright scholar, a visiting research associate at the Smithsonian Institution, and, as a U.S. Army captain, an intelligence analyst in the Pentagon. His recently published works include World War I: The Definitive Encyclopedia and Document Collection Wars That Changed History: 50 of the World’s Greatest Conflicts and U.S. Conflict in the 21st Century: Afghanistan War, Iraq War, and the War on Terror, all published by ABC-CLIO. James R. Arnold is the author of more than 30 books devoted to military and political history. His most recent work is Napo- leon 1813: Decision at Bautzen. Previous works include Praeger’s Napoleon Conquers Austria: The 1809 Campaign for Vienna, winner of the Napoleonic Society Literary Award The Moro War, winner of the Army Historical Foundation’s Trefry Award and a work of historical fiction, The Cost of Freedom. Roberta Wiener is managing editor of the Journal of Military History. She is the author of The American West: Living the Fron- tier Dream and, jointly with Arnold, has written and edited numerous historical reference works.
