Acknowledgments
First and foremost, I thank the contributors for allowing me to include their
essays in this book. This volume would not have been possible without their
scholarly efforts, fortitude, and patience throughout this process. I believe
that their important contributions in expanding the literature regarding black
women intellectuals are well demonstrated in this text. I would also like to
thank Kim Kennedy White for her diligence, concern, and support regarding
this project. My colleagues in the Department of History and Anthropology
have always been great mentors and exceedingly understanding, as well as
helpful, of me in my scholarly endeavors, and I humbly thank them for their
guidance throughout the years. My family, including my parents Gloria and
Freddie Sr., as well as my five siblings, Sophia, Patty, Fredericka, Freddie Jr.,
and Mark, have always stood by me in all of my academic pursuits, and for
this I am eternally grateful.
