6 Guided Inquiry Goes Global Tucker (2012a) asserts that it is the combination of 21st-century skills and rigor- ous, standards-driven curriculum delivered by excellent teachers following excellent pedagogy that makes for a successful education system. bGI is a pedagogy suited to such circumstances. GI is based in curriculum topics, empowered by teaching teams well versed and expert in the pedagogy of GI, and founded on 21st-century skills. Worldwide, education systems are moving toward changing pedagogy and curric- ulum content in order to nurture 21st-century skills. For example, in Australia, the “general capabilities” are our version of 21st-century skills, as can be seen in Table 1.1 presented by Barry McGaw, Vice Chancellor’s Fellow, University of Melbourne, Chair, The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) at the Australian School Library Association conference in 2013.
